The Perfect Egg Timer is one of those apps you didn’t even know you needed, but it’s so well designed, and so clever that you just have to get it. The perfect boiled egg has eluded many a chef, but using this app, you can take every possible variable into account when determining the proper cooking time for your eggs.
The first thing you’ll want to do is to go to the Egg diameter screen, and hold your egg up to your phone, adjusting the sliders to determine the size of your egg. Once that’s done, tap okay to go back to the main screen. Here you’ll want to select your altitude (tap the location icon, and the app will do it for you), the egg temperature, and specify how you like your yolk, from runny to hard.
Once you’ve determined all of this, tap Continue to go to the timer screen. Tap Start when the water begins to boil. If you’re not sure what to do, you can tap the info icon, and step-by-step instructions will guide you. While your timer counts down, you can watch the Egg spy image to see just what the inside of your egg looks like at any given moment.
I really like the way this app takes full advantage of the iPhone capabilities, like the sliders to measure your egg, and automatically finding your altitude. It’s a really nicely designed app as well, with the egg photos and organized layout. It may seem a little silly to have an app just for boiling eggs, but for just $1.99, it’s a handy tool for egg lovers. Four jars of applesauce!
